Shame Steve didn't have much resource to original material. These are mainly cover versions, and Steve Green cover versions at that. Also attempting to reproduce the orchestrations or feel of the originals is all but impossible on a budget line recording like this one. But Steve (Spendlove, that is) still shows his talent. The opener track "He Holds The Keys", is one of those triumphant anthems which make vocalists really earn their money, shows our man's ability to reach up there with convincing power. Not quite Michael Bolton you understand, but he makes you sit up and pay attention. Steve calms down a bit for some pleasing ballads, which he handles with warmth and emotion that's just right for the material. Backing is kept simple, just keyboards and occasional sax, but it does allow the voice to shine. Probably the extra something to produce 'stardom' is absent, but Steve's may be better off without that and I would guess doesn't seek it anyway. An enjoyable, worthwhile tape.
