This is romance country style, some upbeat, some soft - but most of all this is sentimental, Manilow style music with schmaltz and "how love should be" between two people. The songs sound too good to be true - but whoever said that realism has an important part to play in the really great songs? It's pretty, nice, lovely and all other expressions you could give, none of them derogatory. It's easy to say this is emotionalist claptrap (and a great deal of people would) but it's extremely endearing and very pleasant on the ears. The melody of "State Of The Union" with both Steve and Annie taking the reigns; the sheer jollity of "Second Honeymoon" and the get-it-straight message of "Where Did The Romance Go?" telling of the man forgetting the art of romance because of pressures of work. This really is so nice an album, with clear love messages for us all.
