I like this album. Not only does it highlight the fact that there's a seemingly unending flow of talent coming out of Britain's churches; it also shows how increasingly cosmopolitan those churches are becoming. Sylvain Koudou hails from the Ivory Coast but is now very much a Londoner and his debut album is a collection of self-penned songs - all in French - featuring some of the finest musicians to come out of South London. With the current state of my French, I won't attempt any in-depth translating, but I'll just say the majority of the songs are worship-oriented. Musically, it's a pleasant, poppy sound rather than firing black gospel or African rhythms, but good nonetheless, with "Suave-Le" (the closing track) being my personal favourite. 'Majeste' is a fine album from a fine singer - and a good enough reason to revise your GCSE French. Listen, repeat and understand.
