Rocherau's contribution to the upsurge of African dance music is Soukous, the version from Zaire that owes much to traditional African sounds with a certain nod towards South American and Cuban rhythms. Pretty infectious stuff musically and lyrically carrying various references to God and Christian roots. The title track's very upfront gospel, Muzina means "In The Name Of" -it's about praying to \Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with admonitions like "Read the Bible, beware of riches" and "All the saints and angels, lift up the name of the Creator". Certain snippets of other lyrics might indicate the artist's not yet entirely clear of pagan traces, but I imagine he is well on the way. Colourful, joyous music, beautifully recorded.
