I met Sorensen in Nashville recently and amongst all the albums I brought home with me, this one stood out glinting in the pile! It's clear that Taylor Sorensen grew up listening to plenty of classic rock music as he wears his influences firmly on his sleeve for this debut album. Imagine crossing the passion and songwriting of Bruce Springsteen with a few vocal twists from Bono and you get the right ballpark. However, Taylor is no mere copyist, he's managed to forge something that sounds original and his songwriting is accomplished and engaging. The opening track is the dynamic horn-infused "Love Somebody Else" though there are more subtle delicate songs like "Follow Me" and "Fly Away" to follow. My personal favourite is the vibey "Sing (Or The Rocks Will Get To)" which closes the album and mixes almost African-style vocals with an understated groove. He's rumoured to be opening for Delirious? with Worship Circus in the autumn and I'm looking forward to seeing how the songs translate into a live setting.
