Cross Rhythms, both through radio and magazine, have been following and supporting this pioneering hip-hop crew's rise since the earliest days - we played tracks from their first single when they were called Acts 29; we played the title track to their 'History' EP; we wrote about them in CR77 when they were planning the unthinkable (ie, going into full time ministry) and now we find ourselves raving about their new album. What is so impressive about the tracks on this new set is that they manage to keep the raps fresh and streetwise while breaking new ground in some of the production sounds evolved in their West London studio. In a Christian music scene where many releases are pale imitations of what is selling in the mainstream marketplace, The 29th Chapter's winning way with serious spiritual messages interspersed with clever vignettes make this one of the most refreshing hip-hop releases of this, or any, year.
