Following on from their award winning 'Never Going Back To OK' album, this latest offering from The Afters is a far richer blend than they ever served whilst working in their previous job at Starbucks in Mesquite, Texas. With Josh Havens vocals weaving confidently around the riff laden guitar work of Matthew Fuqua, ably supported by Dan Ostebo on bass and Jordan Mohilowski on drums, 'Light Up The Sky' has enough hooks and strong melodies to satisfy the most discerning customer. The album opens with the title track which quickly delivers an anthemic chorus that lingers long after the music has ended. "Say It Now" has a simple intensity that benefits from the less is more approach. If it is '70s style guitar riffs you're after then "We Won't Give Up" gives you just that and more and will leave you desperately trying to remember which band they remind you of. Possibly the most radio friendly cut of all is "Start Over" (which along with "We Won't Give Up" has been chosen for Cross Rhythms airplay). 'Light Up The Sky' needs a few plays to appreciate the quality of the songwriting but once it registers it shows itself to be a quality pop rock release.
