Just in case anyone was wondering, the bizarre album title refers to Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus with a kiss. It is the last album produced by the band at their own Neverland studios, which has recently gone bust. This limited edition cassette/CD is also acting as a demo tape, which hopefully will lead to their well-deserved break with a mainstream label. 'Kissers And Killers' consists of eight love songs, described by the band as of the 'semi-twisted romantically miserable variety (committed lovers should relate)'. How jolly! The track "Let The Sky Fall" was originally recorded in 1990 with the late Mark Heard on the accordion. However, the guitars, bass and vocals were rerecorded, keeping this solo, with Steve on vocals. My favourite track is "Yellow Skies" with Derri's four-note ostinato wailing guitar pattern. Musically, 'Kissers And Killers' is very different from 'Circle Slide' - Derri's guitar effects are more expressive, pronounced and creative, Steve is excellent (as usual) and Tim is back on bass (Robin left and joined Rachel Rachel). The only criticism I have is that all eight tracks, to me, sound quite similar. However, it's well worth the trek down to Dual Edge for all you Londoners (you can even listen to it before buying it!). C'mon mainstream labels, sign The Choir NOW!!
