At the time of its release in 1990 this album quickly became the Detroit sisters' most successful release despite having had a crossover hit with "You Brought The Sunshine" back in 1981. Packed with great vocal performances and a couple of Clark classics, despite the sometimes dated '80s production, 'Heart & Soul' stands up pretty well. Highlights include "Smile, God Loves You" which is built on a similar groove to "Sunshine" and the superbly funky "Time Out". Obviously vocally, this is pretty amazing since the tight harmonies of The Clark Sisters are justifiably legendary so a song like "There Is A Balm In Gilead" really ministers and "I Am Blessed" shows off their talents. The ballad "Pray For The USA" is a bit cloying but then I am British! Currently the album is out of print, like a lot of their '80s output, which is a shame and another example of the shallowness of catalogue in the gospel scene.
