When I get to meet the new MD at Nelson Word I'm gonna walk right up to him and shake him by the hand, 'cause here at last is THE roots album from America. CR has been raving about it for months, even making it to the CR choice list a few issues ago. It's taken a year or so to get here, but it's been worth the wait. "Yanks playing Celtic music!" I hear them scream from the top of Sleeve Donard... "They canny play oor music wi' passion," comes the cry from Fort William folkies... But wait I say...put away your Skene Dhus and just listen, because these boys and girls can play...and play well! Reels and jigs galore come fast and intricate. Old classics like "There Were Roses" sound like they've been recorded on a Saturday evening in McConnels pub in Dublin... It all sounds like, well, Belfast bodrhan beating, Perth pipe playing, Wicklow whistles, Fort William fiddles and top class traditional music. Get the idea? Yessir, when I meet that MD from Nelson Word I'm gonna shake him by the hand and say, "What you lack in speed, you make up for in quality!"
