The Donut Man (aka Rob Evans) is a New Jersey-based singer/songwriter with over 20 years of experience in a highly successful children's ministry under his belt and his own TV show, so yes he knows what he's doing. This album from 2002 is aimed at children in the two to seven year age group and from the reaction of my four year old son dancing away to this CD, I think it will be a hit with it's target audience! You can well imagine groups of kids in churches across the country full of toddlers bopping along to "I Heard Your Word" or "Blind Leading The Blind". The lyrics of the songs are very simple and easily remembered, which is a great way of getting bite-size chunks of the Bible message into the lives of our younger children whilst having fun; and that's how it should be! How easy is it to forget this fun element as adults? Musically, songs are well produced with no outstanding highlights, often bordering on Sesame Street in its presentation. After prolonged listening, it can become a bit like those irksome tunes that are played through the speakers at children's amusement parks, so it is better in smaller doses. Backing vocals coming from a group of young children, which blends in well with the style of the CD but for me this was just a little bit too twee.
