Five years in the making, and with a couple of changes to the lineup, the 'In Scarlet And Vile Special Edition' heralds a haunting yet addictive return for the aggregation fronted by Joey Belville. With the songs addressing a variety of life issues and situations the lyrics can be grittier and sometimes darker than your traditional release but this only serves to build a depth and sincerity to each of the songs. "Heaven (The Devil In The Details)" is a song that hooks it's way in with a catchy chorus that embrace the conflict and desire of a failed relationship and the turmoil of emotions that accompany it. "The Huntress" explores a deeper part of the psyche examining the self-destructive nature of a girl, with her prey providing the counter-lines. This isn't a collection of songs that would be described as overtly spiritual but they do tie in to topics that could easily be heard on a Sunday morning, one exception to this is found in "Away" in which the band sing of an all-consuming love from God. The extra tracks and remixes on this special addition version are a brilliant addition and enhance the album rather than feeling like last minute recordings. If you are a fan of electronic pop and rock, and enjoy a '90s sound then this is definitely worth searching out.
