In today's lemming-like sprint to embrace all things Celtic, it is good to remind ourselves that George Macleod's original vision, originally intended to bring renewal to the Church of Scotland, continues to epitomise the Celtic focus on work and worship, politics and prayer, sacred and secular. In this engagingly written anthology of liturgies and worship resources, these fundamental principles are woven into a prayerful work of poetry and prose that can be transposed into a more parochial worship setting. Some prayers might offend those of a more fundamentalist disposition, and Evangelicals will resist the apparent constraint of a written liturgy. In fact, I have to confess to a degree of circumspection myself. However, when submitted to the liberating guidance of the Holy Spirit, the pre-printed words quickly reveal the heart of a creative Lord who cares for every member of our community and, when used selectively, represent an excellent aid to worship for all those who share the lona Community's principles of Christian lifestyle. Editor, Kathy Galloway, should be applauded for imaginatively drawing upon the creativity and experience of our Christian forebears to bring a multi-purpose pattern of Celtic worship for today.
