Family singing sensations The Katinas grew up on the Polynesian island of Samoa. Their music has touched many hearts and they have a worldwide reputation for their soulful blend of rock and pop. This DVD, centred around a live performance (in a fairly intimate setting) of some of their better known songs, aims to give something of a background to their life together. There's a feature on growing up in Samoa, with interviews from their pastor, the president of their record label and their father (who puts their faith down to getting up at 4am for prayer together!). Their (white American) wives sit round a table and answer sub-Smash Hits questions such as "What does John have for breakfast?" and there is home video footage of the next generation of little Katinas, who cutely respond to all kinds of promptings about what daddy does. A short film of their singing on a radio breakfast show and the fine video for their single "Still In Love" complete the package. There's no doubting that the music is good and the boys are exceptionally talented, and I'm sure that many people are intrigued by the way in which a whole family from a fairly remote island have had such an impact on the world of CCM, but there's something a little too sugary about this package for me. Many will love it, but it's an acquired taste.
