The five brothers from American Samoa are well established with their tight, luxuriant, soulful harmony. On their latest set they've covered 10 songs by other artists and added a new song of their own, the up-tempo "Love For A Lifetime". Choosing the songs was, apparently, a painstaking process, starting with more than 100 possibles, the resulting 10 including songs by Keith Green, Randy Stonehill, Andrae Crouch, Amy Grant, Russ Taff and Michael Omartian. I particularly liked the Katinas' take on the Michael W Smith classic, "Secret Ambition" while they also introduced something fresh into Rich Mullins' timeless "I See You". It's also good to see that one of the Katinas' first choices was the interesting inclusion of the UK chart number one from the end of the '80s, "The Living Years" by Mike And The Mechanics, about the need for people, especially family, to deal with differences with each other before they die. The brothers do justice to all the "borrowed" songs with well-crafted versions.
