The Oak Ridge Boys started out in the 1940s as a Southern gospel group to became, in the '70s, a successful mainstream country act, and have now reverted to their gospel roots in some of their later recordings. Long time member Duane Allen has written some very interesting sleevenotes, but unfortunately there are no recording dates on any of the 13 tracks on this interesting compilation, nor is there any indication as to the line up on each recording. The album kicks off with "King Jesus", a track I first heard by a Swedish country gospel group, the Samuelsons, when they appeared at the Wembley Country Music Festival many years ago. I particularly enjoyed "The Flowers Kissed The Shoes (Jesus Wore)". The only other songs I knew previously that are featured on this album are "I Know" (from Wanda Jackson), "Daddy Sang Bass" (Johnny Cash) and Gene McClelland's standard "Put Your Hand In The Hand" (George Hamilton IV). Whilst I enjoyed this album, I didn't find it particularly exciting.

Product Description
The Oak Ridge Boys are considered one of the greatest groups in Country Music history.
Long before their many hits like 'Elvira' and 'Bobbie Sue', they dominated the world of Gospel Music. Originally known as The Oak Ridge Quartet, they began performing in the early 1940s and Time Magazine dubbed them one of the “top drawing gospel groups in the nation.”
Breaking all barriers, the Oaks brought their Gospel music to the mainstream with a popcountry sounding style. By the late 70s, the group had reached the top of the Gospel Music world. The long-haired, bell-bottom wearing group now known as The Oak Ridge Boys soon branched out to cross-over stardom, dominating both the Country and Pop music scene.
Today, the Oak Ridge Boys continue to wow audiences with their high-energy stage show, performing more than 150 dates a year.
Gospel Music gave the Oaks their roots with a foundation to stand and sing on for more than 50 years and now New Haven Records is proud to unveil its latest addition to The Gospel Legacy Series, The Oak Ridge Boys: The Gospel Sessions.
