The veteran quartet started out as a southern gospel group, but in company with others such as The Oakridge Boys, wandered over to more lucrative pastures of commercial country music. No matter what they have sung though, they have stubbornly maintained their traditional style, included gospel songs on many of their albums and put out the occasional all gospel release. They love 'em in the States, and currently their TV show is the most popular music programme over there. The album features the Statlers in supreme form, after a few recent hies. The harmony vocals are spot on and the warm, downhome atmosphere has returned with a vengeance. "The All-Girl-All-Gospel Quartet" is a kind of fun tribute, "Chet, You're The Reason" is a deserved accolade to Mr Atkins, the other tracks include some fine country ballads. "I've Never Lived This Long Before" sounds corny, but it's a gem. Vintage Statler, quality throughout.
