If you could sum up this album from the oxford-based youth worship band in a word, it would be "promising". Considering their age The Vine, hailing from Eynsham near Oxford, show a fair amount of competence. Melodically there's nothing to complain about here, though some of the lyrics at times are a little twee. Ollie's bass and Toby's drums create a solid foundation, allowing the spotlight to focus on their bandmates. "The Name Of God" demonstrates Nick's quality lead guitar skills and starts the disc on a very up-beat note. Lily is given chance to let her vocals loose on the emotional "The Lord Our God", also invaluably filling the sound with smooth keyboards and solid vocal harmonies. Unfortunately the problems with 'Horizon' are fairly prominent. In lower registers Matt's vocals are spot on, but when he ventures into higher frequencies he seldom hits the spot. Other concerns lie within the production - timing issues, quick fades and mic-work could all be improved. But it's still a promising debut.
