It took six years to collect together all the songs on this album, and the quality shows. The official publicity says "Euro rock soul with a college rock edge." In fact it is hard to categorise, as it is so refreshingly original. It is a really refreshing collection - a whole album of rock-based worship without even a nod to U2 or Vineyard, but instead an entirely original group of songs which seem to take more from early Prince than typical rock influences for worship songs. The sound is intense, at times funky but always guitar-driven and uplifting. Many worship collections are listened to so that the songs can be learnt and sung congregationally, but don't bear repeated listening. These songs are refreshingly vibrant and worth listening to in themselves. They need to be played loud, and every listen brings out something extra - that guitar lick, percussive backdrop, or harmony that I didn't catch fully last time round. I am not sure how easily most UK worship bands would be able to adapt and deliver these anthemic songs to their congregations, but I would like to see them try!
