Having shown exciting promise with in his '1234567' EP, 'Kidheart' is the debut album from California-based indie artist Toddzero, and it most definitely lives up to the rave reviews given to his aforementioned EP. Mixing electronica textures with gospel harmonies, rock guitar riffs and an all-in-all indie feel, this album excels with its own true distinctive style. The album, sandwiched in between electronica-driven title track and the motivational anthem "We Will Win", is effectively in two parts: the first a collection of personal stories, "You Really Love Me" being an example of this; and the second being more conceptual with more of an obvious focus on salvation and the Christian faith. So conceptual is this second half of the album that one track, "Death", is all but 13 seconds in length, but is one of the most powerful tracks on 'Kidheart' as Toddzero uses the sonic image of death as a means of changing direction in the album from the love shown by God to more motivational and driven songs in "Go", "Rise" and "We Will Win" as a response to the preceding messages on the album. It is rare to find an album so full of catchy, melodic hooks. Thoroughly recommended.
