The new country movement took its time in getting through to Christendom but now a whole slew of fine young Christian country talents have arrived to show that country gospel is a lot more than ancient grandpas picking bluegrass ditties on the back porch. Tony sings with husky intensity, plays very fine bluesy guitar and the whole album comes on like a sanctified Steve Earle. The songs are penetrating too. Try "Bad Things, Good People" ("Under cloudy skies, a young man dies/Trapped in the mud of a Texas flood/His widow shakes her head and whispers why/Why, Lord?"). We'll surely be hearing more from this young man. Get in at the ground floor.
