In the early '90s, US singer/songwriter and prison ministry man Tony Loeffler and his ever-evolving backing band played at prisons in his native New Jersey resulting in over 10,000 prisoners being saved. Listening to volume one of a series of seven recently remastered download-only reissues from these ministry times, it's easy to see why, thanks to a definite anointing of the Holy Spirit over proceedings. The compassionate but powerful spoken sections delivered by Loeffler and Mark Tirondola - both former inmates themselves - don't miss and hit the wall when it comes to informing their audience of what they need to do to escape the hell they've found themselves in and the altar call at the end offers up an opportunity to receive Christ in no-messing fashion. Never originally intended for public consumption, this is musically rough and ready stuff but the dexterity of the Blue Angels and an early '80s era Dylan vocal approximation from Loeffler ensure that original compositions such as "Finish Line", "Bright Light" and "Sweet Love" remain memorable.
