This is a great independent release from a lady who may have a name that sounds like a popular ice cream, but the only thing about her voice that melts when you hear it is your soul! Eclectic style-wise, from the chunky rhythms of the awesome "Blind", which opens this album, to the MOR ballad title track. Rootsy is the best way to describe all of this, though when she plugs in there is always a backdrop of acoustic instrumentation. But it's the haunting quality of her voice which captivates, and the arrangements really do bring out the best in what she's doing. The songwriting is vulnerable (here's a singer who admits to having troubles!), which only serves to help her connect across the void to those who hear, but everywhere there's an underlying optimism which bleeds through. Standouts for me are "So Kind" and the jaunty catchy "No Reason" which is infectious. Elsewhere, the tender "Forgive" is a moving piano ballad and "Too Many" is thoughtful acoustic pop. The splendid voice, great songs and fine production leave me thinking that Tracy deserves wider attention.
