This, the third album from the Philadelphia-based rapper and theological seminary student recently clocked up a bit of Christian music history in debuting at number one in both America's CCM (white) and Gospel (black) charts. And what a fine set it is too. Brimming over with radio-friendly hip-hop (the tracks "Snitch", "Invade", "Show's Over" and "The Invasion" have all been selected for Cross Rhythms radio play) this is punchy and thoroughly engaging stuff from a rapper at the top of his game. The song "Snitch" has a particularly effective chorus "If you hate your sin you can play this song" while the contributions from guests like Sho Baraka, J Paul, Lecrae, Thi'sl and, most surprisingly of all, CCM's Jimmy Needham all work well. An album that artfully bridges the gap between the streetwise but sometimes inaccessible initiatives of the Christian hip-hop underground and the pop rap confections of TobyMac, 'Between Two Worlds' is a trailblazing set.
