Sounding like a sanctified Al B Sure!, Troy Temp- er, I mean Johnson's debut offering is a delight, despite being a bit formulaic. The ballads and midtempo stuff on offer here work best, his voice is a touch too 'nice' to really pull off the funkier tracks. This is one of those 'lone ranger' albums, with Troy not only writing and producing all the songs, but also doing all the vocals and playing all the instruments (all right then -programming all the computers) by himself. At times, I can't help but wonder if a few more humans in the studio wouldn't have given it a bit more edge, but it has its moments.
