American five piece gospel vocal group True Believers deliver 'Don't Count Me Out' and mix together classic gospel sounds with some soulful vocals. With songs penned by legends like Hezekiah Walker and Doug and Melvin Williams (who also produce) you know this is going to be good. Walker's "Clean Inside" opens up the album and then pretty quickly we're getting down into good old fashioned soul stirring gospel ballads like "Don't Leave Me Jesus", "All About You" and "Don't Count Me Out". "Don't Need No Rock" gets into foot stomping territory and the classic "I Got Joy" is of course up tempo, upwardly focused and filled with joy. Overall this is accomplished gospel but despite all the big names and the undoubted talent of True Believers in the vocal department, 'Don't Count Me Out' only sparks in places but doesn't manage to catch fire.
