Having exploded on the scene in 2014 with an exciting, energetic and original brand of soulful pop, Nashville's Unspoken achieved major success at Christian radio with their distinctive sound. This is the deluxe version of the album released in August 2016 with three songs being added to the standard version. Helmed by a bevy of big-name CCM producers - Tedd T, Seth Mosely, Mitch Dane and Chris Stevens - this is a potent mix of clean, modern production and exceptional instrumentation topped off by Chad Matison's versatile and at times soulful vocals. High octane opener and lead single "Higher" kicks things off in celebratory style and sets the tone throughout as Matison lets loose in praise to God. "The Cure" showcases the singer's heartfelt vocals at their best as he emotes of how God can heal any situation or person, perhaps referencing his own past as an alcoholic and drug addict. "Life In The Death Of Me". It's a flawless piece of soulful pop, autobiographical in nature, containing vivid imagery of finding life in the middle of dying to ourselves. There are many more highlights: "Follow Through", a slower-paced prayer of surrender; and "Miracle" where Matison does his best Maroon 5 impression. The additional tracks for the deluxe version are equally as good; "Roots" is a slow, funky jam - finding hope in God in hard times - an African choir coming in at the end. A terrific album from a band showing maturity and growth in their craft.
