This record displays the songwriting and vocal ability of the ten band members, backed up by various others who seem to do most of the rest. The name Urban Hope is a trifle misleading in that there is very little that is 'urban' about this at all - cool beat and the odd sax solo is not going to reach gangland when it is merely underpinning a straightforward gospel ditty with blatant gospel lyrics. That said, however, the group do succeed with most of the tracks in producing a solid, 'modern' gospel sound, almost like Billy And Sarah Gaines plus choir, and the record does have its moments both of anointed, gospel chorus and of Michael Jackson-esque danceability. Overall, the songwriting is good, with standouts including "We Praise Your Holy Name", the funky "Ain't No Rock" and the thoughtful "Forgive". Hal Sacks' production is slick, glossy and fairly funky although I felt the whole think lacked a certain fullness that might have kept it from seeming as ordinary as it did. Still, let's have more R&B praise, Integrity. It's a way into the 90s.
