Reviewed by Nigel Harris Imagine all the traditional hymns you immediately associate with Easter - "There Is A Green Hill Far Away", "When I Survey", "Jesus Christ Is Risen Today", etc - and add a couple of more recent classics such as Graham Kendrick's "From Heaven You Came". Then imagine hearing them sung by real, first class church choirs, with superbly recorded traditional church organ and piano accompaniment. Well, here it is, a set of 20 Easter favourites compiled from the seven CDs in the '30 Favourite Hymns' series from Alliance. There is nothing fancy about the arrangements here, each hymn is sung just how it should be, and how you expect it to be sung. The choirs of St Margaret's and Moortown Baptist Church, Prestwich, St Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh and the Scottish Festival Singers get a barely legible credit in the small print, so I'd like to acknowledge and celebrate their work here, because they surely deserve a little more credit. If you want to listen to classic Easter hymns, look no further.
