That well-worn truism that original motion picture sound tracks seldom work outside of the context of the silver screen resurfaces here. The feature film dramatisation of the early life of Nora Lam and her battle to retain faith against the backdrop of bloody communist oppression and her final miraculous escape from China is an incredible story and the stuff from which heart-lifting biopics are made. Yet the music here is routine string-filled film music, composed and orchestrated by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn. Only the opening theme song "No One But You" a wistful ballad sung by Irene Cara (a believer?) has much interest and that melody is flogged to death appearing in various orchestrated versions throughout the album.
