Volume 1 of the 'Demulcent (meaning to soothe) Sessions' doesn’t mess about. After the first sample-laden track it throws you into a 15 minute deep house workout before levelling out again into a series of vocal-driven tunes. The first thing that strikes you about this compilation is the quality of the tracks though there's only one or two names that you'll know like Prophetica, whose gem of an album 'Icons' was out on N-Soul awhile back. There's a wide range of dance styles offered here from the Eurotrance of Siminz with some wonderfully worshipful vocals to the prog house of Shiloh, the Canadian artist who'se been getting plays from Sasha, Tayo et al. There's tech/trance from Dutch artist Tresice, prog beats from a 21st century psalmist called Hypostatic and Eurotrance from the Florida turntablist DJ Light (well known to readers of the Cross Rhythms Dance Listings). All in all, a superb showcase demonstrating that against all the odds Christians are still making cutting edge dance music.
