Drive time has become virtually a specific musical genre. Buy a drive time CD in a motorway service station and you expect Boston, Journey, ELO, Thin Lizzy and of course Loose Windscreen himself. But is there "much more than cars and girls" as Prefab Sprout sang? Elevation Music clearly think so, and have teamed up with Christian Vision For Men to create this series aimed squarely at that missing species from the Church, The Man. The cover shows a sports car, there are few "Jesus is my boyfriend" songs, nor are there any ballads. The songs are generally polite rockers from the likes of Ben Cantelon ("Saviour Of The World"), Vicky Beeching ("Salvation Day"), Brenton Brown, Trent and Hillsong, along with newer names such as Pete James. They are up-tempo enough for the M1, but not so much that you'll lift your hands off the wheel and raise them to Heaven. For the regulation issue Christian Nice Guy this CD may be OK, but as a way of connecting with his mates in the pub this reviewer is less sure. Ultimately - like much of the Church - it lacks a sense of gritty purpose in life.
