Some while back Heritage put out two excellent volumes called 'Get Right With God' and now follow through with another fine selection of 25 gospel rarities, many dubbed from the only known surviving copy of the originals. There are plenty of musical treasures, a lyrical Sister O M Terrell backed by her own guitar; Rev Utah Smith known as The Travelling Evangelist' who was a popular figure in the 1940s gospel scene; and Joe Townsend who recorded in 1970 but sounds like he'd stepped straight out of a time warp. Other artists here are Lottie Bracy, Willie Mae Williams, Elder A Johnson, Brother Willie Eason and McEnnis Jones. Performances are often crude and rugged, recording quality primitive, but for passion and real gospel fervour this is a dynamic album.
