The God's Not Dead movie has attracted considerable attention Stateside and this soundtrack will help the cause as well. The best songs on this varied album are the first two. Shane Harper's "Hold You Up" has a Mumford & Sons vibe and an encouraging message for challenging times - "The angels, they brought you, and they're gonna hold you up." Tricia sounds a bit like Linda Ronstadt on the beautifully reflective "What I Know" which deals with faith commitment in the midst of questions - "I could throw my fist in the air/Demanding answers/But despite of all the questions/I'm still giving you my life." Stellar Kart's "Ones And Zeroes" shakes the album into pop-rock mood, followed by two uptempo Newsboys tracks - "The King Is Coming" and the big hit title track "God's Not Dead (Like A Lion)" with it's confident declaration of faith. 'Save a Life' by Manic Drive creates an urgency about passing on the faith to young people, while the soulful voiced Jimmy Needham slows down the tempo as he emotes "Everywhere I go I see arrows/Pointing the way back to you." 'Save Us' by the JJ Weeks Band also works well in its insistent call to an uncaring society ("Everybody's havin' a good time but just across the street/A young girl hadn't had enough to eat"). A good soundtrack. . . can't wait to see the film.
