"Not where music's at...but where it's going" states the sleeve. Well, I don't know about that, since some of the songs on this low cost sampler are a couple of years old now, but never mind, eh? Gotee Records, the brainchild label of the guys in DC Talk, present here a collection of songs from each of their roster: Out Of Eden, Christafari, Johnny Q Public and GRITS. I would guess that most people will have already bought/heard at least one Gotee album, so it's disappointing that on the whole album there's only one song new to these shores, the Scott Blackwell mix of Christafari's "Jungle Inna Babylon", a laudable jungle/ragga tune that will impress if not astound devotees of the ever-metamorphosing drum'n'bass scene. As for the others, Out Of Eden are still groovy, Johnny Q Public still rock with attitude, GRITS still come on with jazz-tinged hip hop and Gotee Nite Out is still, still...Gotee. All good enough in themselves, but with the cumulative talent Gotee Records possess, I wonder if next time we can have a little more imagination please?
