With New Country giving sudden street cred to a music once definitely unhip all manner of country artists are getting a new lease of life and exposure to the CD Generation. So its timely that Maranatha should dust off some of their old country praise masters released on a series of albums over the last decade and put nineteen of them on a CD. They've stood the test very well, several of the vocalists like George Highfill and Dan McCorison have excellent soaked-in-country voices while the accompaniments full of gliding steels and strummed acoustics are nicely authentic with no hint of Nashville schmaltz. Rock devotees will be intrigued to hear tracks from Daniel Amos from the era when they were country rockers while Bonnie Bramlett sings soulfully. My only complaint is the compilers couldn't find room for Cindy Baxter's wonderful "The Lesson Is Love". But maybe that'll be on another reissue.
