I’m 19. I thought karaoke as a concept was dated when I was younger. On the strength of this, it seems not (or is it the Christian music industry reacting years late like always? I’ll leave that to you, dear reader). On receiving this to review, I’ll be honest and say that my heart sank, closely followed by a desire to slate the album. It must be said though that this isn’t too bad. What you get are four tracks (“Shine” from the Newsboys, the fab “Hey, Hey” from the Elms, “Big House” from Audio A and the ubiquitous “Jesus Freak” from dc Talk) first with backing tracks (including backing vocals) and then the full original versions. As a karaoke CD in itself, this does the job admirably, although I have to admit to never having met anyone who likes to partake in Christian karaoke down their local. Perhaps the start of a trend? An interesting idea this, but one full price album with more songs would make the whole concept seem less of a cynical cash in on the part of the record company to me. At the moment one to avoid. Wait for the compilation before you have karaoke nights with the youth group.
