Contained here are the five test pieces that will determine who gets to the Royal Albert Hall and Centaur Centre in Cheltenham. Featured are the cream of the brass world such as Grimethorpe Collery Band, The Cory Band and the Black Dyke Band and as you would expect, this combination does not disappoint. Favourites for me are the "Paganini Variations" (think South Bank Show) and the beautiful yet energetic "Resurgam" played here by the International Staff Band. If this disc is anything to go by, competition will be tough. A great showcase for both knowledgeable listeners and newcomers to modern brass music.
