As regular Cross Rhythms readers will know, the Released series, emanating from Lincoln's dB Studios, is a long-established resource giving grassroots composers and singer/songwriters the opportunity to have at least one of their songs. er. released. The concept has its good points: it means that new artists and composers can get exposure to Joe Public outside the confines of their church. However, the downside is that getting a track on the Released albums is apparently open to anyone meaning the quality varies quite a bit. Excellent cuts are by Andy Smith (remember his underrated 'Breathe' mini-album?), Jo Le Plage and the worship father figure long connected with the dB setup Chris Bowater. All in all, this is a decent collection of worship tracks, many of which could potentially translate into a church context but few of which have the quality to truly standout in the very crowded worship song field.
