The base for the legendary Motown record label and more recently the home city of the Winans gospel dynasty, Detroit has a rich history of musical creativity. And this 10 track sampler culled from upcoming artists in the Michigan motor city confirms that this trend is still very much alive. Showcasing a range of different styles but with an overarching Christian theme, this compilation kicks off with the acoustic pop of "It Is Beautiful" by Al Bettis before launching into some loud and proud Coolio-style hip-hop courtesy of Voorhies Hanniboheez on "Glory 2 God" in which Mr H appears to make sure he and his maker are given equal amounts of praise. This occasionally jarring tendency to lurch from one genre to another works relatively well in the sense that you never know what you're going to get next but proceedings soon settle into a more R&B gospel mould with the likes of Aletta Henderson ("You're The One") and Ayana Thomas ("Your Love") being prime examples. Arguably the highlight of this collection is "Send Me" - a perfectly-pitched declaration of submission to God by husband and wife rap outfit Flyzon3 - which, alongside much of the rest of this release, helps to showcase the wealth and diversity of Christian music in the city of Detroit.
