Known for their American-based website, Jesusfreakhideout occasionally compile free download samplers and this is their hard music offering. Featuring 26 tracks that cover a range of heavy genres including hardcore, post hardcore, extreme and death metal, this is an epic listen, clocking in at over two hours. Many of the names showcased are familiar, drawing heavily from the Facedown roster. Fallstar, Collosus and Onward To Olympus are all featured. Of this family, "Eternity" by Alters is an early standout track, with its blend of aggressive and melodic sections. Other top tracks include Everything In Slow Motion's "Red" and As I Lay Dying's ambient yet crushing "Acceptance". Outside of more mainstream offerings, the likes of The Order Of Elijah provide the experimental "New Line Of Defence" with shredded vocals. As in any compilation of this nature, the quality of the music on offer does vary, with a couple of tracks turning in very thin vocal performances, but the pace and aggression of the recordings never lets up, making this a very intense listen for a single seating. The value of this free download comes in the sheer quantity of music on offer and makes an excellent introduction to some of the best and lesser-known Christian hard music bands plying their trade at the moment.
