Hats off as a mark of respect to the good people at Arc for taking a chance on bringing in glorious music from around the world. This CD showcases the beauty of Russian religious music from composes of the status of Ivanov and Kastalsky amongst others. The programme of 25 pieces is in reverse chronological order, starting with the 20th Century "My Soul Doth Magnify The Lord" stretching back to the 15th century "To Your Cross O Lord". The three choirs Slavonic Assembly, Moscow Madrigal and Russian Chamber Choir have all the truly immense power and polish we now expect from this source. These are mixed choirs in the Orthodox tradition, with pulsating soloists and thunderous chords alongside immaculately gentle segments achieving a programme of the highest artistic music. A profoundly moving experience of how magnificent choral music can be.
