What those WOW compilations are to American CCM and gospel, 'The Best Ever' series are to worship music, market-expanding popularisers which are taking worship music way beyond the limited confines of Christian bookshops, even reaching some non-church goers. Of course, as the series goes on it becomes more and more difficult to ring the changes but this 3CD set containing as it does 49 (in the main) fine contemporary worship songs and diverse worship leaders/singers such as Tim Hughes, Delirious?, Abundant Life/Lara Martin, Godfrey Birtill, Hillsongs, Matt Redman (with the London Community Gospel Choir), Stuart Townend, Darlene Zschech this is stirring worship indeed. The big let down is in the packaging. Considering the emphasis on the "live" thing, it seems ludicrous that the compilers forgot to tell us WHAT live event recordings were used and when they were made. But then, sleeve details have long been Kingsway Music's Achilles heel.

This is one of the best worship compilation CDs I have (and
I have many...)
Most of the tracks are by the original artists, which is not
always the case. This is a very good selection of music,
there are few old songs (another feature of other
compilations). Most of the songs sound really modern and
current, as opposed to the cheesy old versions that can
appear (yes, you've guessed it - in other compilations.)
If you like some of the artists or songs on this CD, and are
even a tiny bit open minded, and are looking for new songs,
then this should be near the top of your list of CDs to buy.
The new versions of the songs you know will be enough, but
you'll also hear lots of new songs that might stimulate you
into investigating other artists.
