The Christian marketplace is thoroughly saturated with worship compilations, so it requires something quite special to make a new venture stand out from the heap. This is a single-disc collection of 17 tracks - all from American artists apart from three. What makes this album interesting is that it contains a good few lesser known worship beauties. So whadda we get? There're a couple of rock belters, care of Tree63 and Reuben Morgan. There're a few other upbeat pop/rock tracks, viz. from MercyMe, Planetshakers and David Crowder ("Come Thou Fountain"). The remainder of songs are in the gentler "adorational" category. Natalie Grant renders a wonderfully soulful version of "Shout To The Lord"; Delirious? join with Amy Grant on "Find Me In The River". Crystal Lewis ably exalts "The Lion And The Lamb". Highlight for me, though, was Jonathan Butler's unhurried, passionate take on "Lord I Lift Your Name On High" - now that's what I call worship. Tommy Walker also delivers a sensitive ditty, as does both Rita Springer and the Peculiar People Band, whose stripped down "True Worship Song" comes straight from, and goes straight to, the heart. A truly diverse gathering of praise songs.
