The latest in Kingsway's 'Worship Songs' series, a casual listen might lead one to see this 10-song recording as a fairly random compilation of half-decent worship songs. A closer listen reveals a definite focus on the theme of faith. Genres vary, from the predominant pop rock format to the delightful gospel tones of Mark Beswick and the Power Praise Band, to the punchy anthemic sound of Godfrey Birtill and Tammy Trent's inspirational offering, "Merciful God" . No song is particularly recent - indeed all but two stem from the years 2004 or '05. Standouts have got to be Tim Hughes' rousing rendition of Townend's hymnal "O Church Arise" and the truly inspiring "Awakening" from Scotland's Andrew Mitchell (whatever happened to him?). Not a bad collection.
