Connoisseurs of GREAT voices will have been await­ing the emergence of this album with something akin to bated breath. Vince has of course been the omnipresent sidekick of Charlie Peacock and it's been Vince's soulful pyrotechnics which for years have been the perfect musical counterbalance to Mr Peacock's blue-eyed soulisms. So now bigtime music corp Warners have moved in for Vince, presumably with one eye on the possibility of the ever illusive crossover hit. So how is our hero's debut? Cuts span from smooth and jazzy ("It's Over") to dance-'til-you-die house garoooove ("Make It Work") but the effect is somewhat dissipated by rather hackneyed lyrics and arrangements which for all their big budget classiness are a bit soul-by-numbers. Still, that awsome soar-and-swoop voice is still spine tingling
