If you read Cross Rhythms' recent interview with Vince you'll know he is an Arkansas-based singer/songwriter who once fronted the hitmaking band Jonah33 and now records material on his own St Muse Records. This five-song EP is a gem, with "No Regrets" a bluesy midtempo rocker with an infectious chorus already selected for Cross Rhythms airplay. It doesn't stop there. "Things I Need To Say" is a thousand miles from the raw, hard rock of Jonah33, being a piece of lilting Americana with a winsome lyric where Vince pours out advice to his kids, being "things I need to say if I die young." Then there's the folksy "American Dream", a reflection on the current sorry state of the US ("Preacher man spitting out a pack of lies/Government selling their thin disguise/We turn a deaf ear to the helpless cries of the poor man"); "Black And White" is a lilting song with another telling lyric ("I've got opinions that I believe in, it don't make me right") while "Planned It" is a choppy rhythmed rocker. One of the best EPs I've heard for years with every song demanding the listener's attention. Here's hoping 'Helium Revisited' gets the recognition it deserves.
