It's difficult in the UK to really appreciate the tidal wave effect that Delirious? have had in the USA. Worship music is now cool and suddenly it's okay to plug in the guitars, turn up the volume and rock out. There's a whole new style of worship that is being copied across America and in a Vineyard-church in California, The Burn Service are developing their version of Cutting Edge with worship leaders Darren Clarke, Ryan Delmore and Jessie Lane. Recorded live with plenty of encouraging whooping thrown in, these guitar-based rock worship songs do the business and there are some moments where it all seems to flow together and hit the mark. The epic "Your Love Reaches Me" is one such moment as it burns with intensity and explodes into a souped up repeated chorus. The closing "I Love Your Presence" is another moment where the album smoulders with intense worship. Elsewhere, you can pump up the volume and rock out to the rifting praise of "On Fire" or "New Creation" but it just doesn't seem to have the same passion as most of the Brit praise. Still, not a bad little album.
