Originating out of Oklahoma City, Warr Acres is the worship ministry of Victory Church, their unusual title coming from the suburb in which the church is based. 'Future' is the team's fourth release on the Los Angeles-based Dream label. Following in the footsteps of more well-known worship brands eg Hillsong Young & Free, 'Future' sees Warr Acres freshening up their sound by incorporating EDM-infused beats, synths and space-aged bleeps into their mix of worship pop/rock. "Finding Freedom" kicks off proceedings in energetic style with its dance vibe, vocal ooh-ahs and message of liberty in Christ representing the most up-tempo end of the spectrum here. "The Anchor (Found In You)" slows things down for the first of a number of chilled out worship ballads and highlights the competency and talent of the four leads in effortlessly switching between styles. "Not Alone" is the highlight; an emotional ballad rising and falling in intensity eventually reaching a plaintive cry for God to heal our land, the vocals reminiscent of Hillsong United's Taya Smith. Warr Acres have produced a vibrant, interesting, modern album proving they are a versatile outfit. The songwriting is mature with depth. The only slight quibble is that some of the songs are too repetitive and overrun in length. An excellent album from a band with a bright "future".
