Wes Davis is best known for his work with country singer George Hamilton IV and "Draw Me Close To You" is an easy listening style worship album that draws material from a variety of sources. Unfortunately, Paul's pleasant but unexceptional vocals and he bland arrangements leave me completely cold. In short, this is dull, dull, dull. Vocally, he sounds a little like Simon Goodall and overall the low budget recording has a clear sound, but the lack of imagination in creating a setting for these songs means the project sends me to sleep. Surely the point of doing songs like Matt Redman's "Heart Of Worship", Chris Rice's "Go Light Your World" or the Rich Mullins classic "Step By Step" is to actually improve on the original or bring to the surface a new facet we haven't heard before, but these pedestrian retreads are dissatisfying. The sloppy "This Husband Loves His Wife" is an admirable sentiment expressed in a dull song and overall, this is exceptionally ordinary!
